How to Convert a Bank Statement PDF to Excel
By Asad · Published September 29, 2026
A bank statement may show transactions in neat visual columns while storing text as separately positioned PDF fragments. A direct copy and paste can mix dates, descriptions and balances. This guide shows how to extract a structured table and, just as importantly, how to check it before using it.
Prepare a statement you are authorized to use
Open the PDF and try selecting one transaction description. Selectable words usually mean the statement has a digital text layer. If you can only select the page as a picture, it is a scan. Keep the original unchanged and use a locally stored copy. Do not upload someone else’s bank records without permission.
How to convert bank statement PDF to Excel
Open the bank statement to Excel converter and choose the PDF. The browser extracts dated rows and attempts to map descriptions and amounts into debit, credit and balance columns. Review the editable preview before downloading. A yellow row means a wrapped description or an ambiguous amount needs extra checking. When no column heading establishes the side of a movement, the converter uses “Unassigned amount” instead of guessing.
For example, a row reading “01/09/2026 Grocery purchase 1,250.00 8,750.00” does not by itself prove whether 1,250.00 is debit or credit. Check the source statement’s column heading and move it to the correct field. Also compare transaction count, first and last dates, repeated dates, refunds, reversals and negative amounts.
Check balances and export
Correct each row in the preview and remove non-transaction entries. Export an Excel XLSX workbook for editing or CSV for software that accepts comma-separated values. You can convert PDF bank statement to Excel or CSV in the same pass — the preview table is identical either way. You can convert PDF bank statement to Excel or CSV in the same pass — the preview table is identical either way. The spreadsheet has dates, descriptions, debit, credit, balance, unassigned amount and PDF page columns. Keep dates as displayed until you know the bank’s locale; “03/04/2026” could mean March 4 or April 3. Compare opening and closing balances, subtotal periods and large movements with the original. This converter does not certify a reconciliation or financial result.
What about scans and unusual banks?
Image-only scans need OCR, and even a clear scan can confuse 0 and O, 1 and I or decimal separators. Use the OCR tool for preliminary English text recognition, then check every figure manually. Banks may put debit/credit in a single amount column with DR/CR suffixes, use multi-line descriptions, show pending entries or omit a balance. The converter supports common layouts but does not guarantee every institution or statement design. For a non-transaction table, the general PDF to Excel tool is more suitable.
Keep the bank statement private
EasyPDFEdit’s conversion on this page happens in browser memory and produces a local download. Do not share the exported spreadsheet publicly. Clear downloads from shared computers and protect files according to your own banking and accounting practices. Consult the privacy page for the site’s general handling of browser data.
