Convert PDF tables into editable Excel cells
PDF pages store text at fixed coordinates rather than in spreadsheet rows and columns. Layout mode measures every selectable text fragment, identifies likely table headings, rebuilds proportional columns and preserves visual spacing between document sections.
Every PDF page is written to its own worksheet with merged titles, styled section bars, wrapped cells and editable values. The result is designed to resemble the source document while remaining useful for calculations and cleanup in Excel.
How to use PDF to Excel
Select a digital PDF
Choose a PDF whose table text can be selected in a normal PDF reader.
Choose Preserve page layout
The recommended mode reconstructs headings, sections, table columns and visual spacing.
Build the XLSX workbook
Each page becomes a formatted worksheet with editable values and proportional column widths.
Download and verify
Open the workbook in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets and compare important totals with the source PDF.
Designed for invoices, statements and simple reports
PDF to Excel works best with ruled or consistently aligned tables containing selectable text. The layout-preserving mode detects a likely table header, uses its geometry for the worksheet columns and keeps headings or section labels visually distinct.
Complex merged cells, rotated text, overlapping labels and multi-column page designs may still require adjustment because PDFs do not contain native Excel cell definitions. Numeric-looking values remain editable when doing so is safe.
Example: recover an invoice table for checking totals
Open a digital invoice, convert it and compare the description, quantity, unit price and total columns with the original page. Because the cells are editable, you can add formulas in Excel after verifying the extracted values.
The converter uses geometry instead of guessing from spaces alone. Consistent column alignment produces the best workbook, while irregular multi-line descriptions may need two or more worksheet rows to be combined manually.
When PDF to Excel is the right choice
- Move an invoice table into editable cells
- Extract statement rows for checking or sorting
- Recover report data when the original spreadsheet is unavailable
Edge cases to check before downloading
- Scanned invoices contain no extractable table text without OCR.
- Wrapped descriptions can create additional detected rows.
- Displayed totals do not include the source spreadsheet formulas.
Converting a bank statement?
For dated transactions, debit and credit columns and an editable review step, use our bank statement to Excel converter. This general PDF-to-Excel tool reconstructs page layout instead of a transaction ledger.
Privacy, quality and compatibility
Scanned PDFs need OCR before table text can be extracted. The tool reconstructs practical Excel formatting, but original formulas, charts, exact fonts and every border cannot be recovered from a PDF.
Your selected files are processed in browser memory. Keep the source document, inspect the download and use the original authoring application when exact legal, print or archival fidelity is required.
